MCT8316AEVM: How to use DACOUT1/DACOUT2 ?

Part Number: MCT8316AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCT8316A,

Hi Team

I have a question about usage of DACOUT1/DACOUT2 and PWM mode speed input on MCT8316A_GUI.

  1. Where in the document (mct8316a.pdf) can I find  the internal variable defined by address to set DACOUT1_VAR_ADDR and DACOUT2_VAR_ADDR?
For example, if I want to output motor speed, which defined address I have to set?
  2. Is it possible to use PWM mode speed input on MCT8316A_GUI?
Control with external PWM, worked, but I couldn't control from GUI.

You can make use of the "Guided tuning" section in the GUI to configure DACOUTs. In the GUI homepage, click "Start Guided tuning" and look for "Read time variable tracking" under "Basic controls" section as shown in below screenshot.

Yes, it is possible to use PWM mode speed input in MCT8316A_GUI. Move the jumper J1 on the EVM to "Ext" and connect the external PWM signal to EXT_SPEED test point and the PWM GND to AGND test point. See screenshot below. Make sure speed control via I2C is disabled.

  • Hi  -san

I want to know more simpler thing.

About DAC, where in the document is the relationship between register values and its address value is describe?
In other words, where is it written that the bus current register address is 0x000005E0, what is the variable at address 0x5AA that you posted?

About PWM speed input, I wanted to know if MSP40 output PWM for control MCT8316.
Judging from your answer, it seems not for now.

  • Hi Kenji-san,

Please ignore the bus current register mentioned in the GUI. This is a mistake and we will correct this in our next release. Refer to this GUI for the list of algorithm variables and their register addresses that can be monitored using DACOUT.

MSP430 does not generate external PWM speed input to control MCT8316A in MCT8316AEVM.
