DRV8350S-EVM: DRV8350SRTVR

Hi team

Regarding the DRV8350SRTVR gate driver, I want to know what is the maximum negative voltage between VDRAIN (pin 3)  and SHA (pin 6).

This is actually the input to the op amp that senses the VDS voltage of the high side switch.

Thanks

  • Hi Inno,

will look into this today and get you a response shortly

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Andrew

  • Hi Inno,

Please find the answer below in which the abs max ratings of the SHx pin are listed.

    • In the case where we are considering dc-voltage bias (continuous), then the answer should be -5V w.r.t GND. No concern regarding Vdrain status for negative spec.
    • In the case where we are considering transient voltage bias (<200ns), then the answer should be -10V w.r.t. GND. No concern regarding Vdrain status for negative spec.

Side note: generally for motor-driver devices, I believe the VDS OCP monitors (the op amp you are referencing) only turns on after the external MOSFET switches on and waits some 'blank' time for the SHx/Vdrain voltage to stabilize before the Vds checks if the voltage differential is above the VDS_LEVEL threshold setting.

    • this blank time is to prevent false OCP trips during the MOSFET switching transition period (since, of course, there would be a huge voltage differential if the MOSFET was still off

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Andrew

  • Hi Andrew

I want to discuss with you about the schematics, can i send you privately my design ?

    Thanks.

  • Sure - can you send me a private message through e2e, and then I can share my work email address (or send files through e2e direct message if we can get that to work)

    Best Regards,
    Andrew

  • Hi Haim,

Sent over some feedback on your questions via email - please let us know if this resolves your concerns!

Closing the thread for now, and we'll be here to support any follow-up questions if needed
