DRV2625EVM-CT: Motor drivers forum

Part Number: DRV2625EVM-CT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2625EVM-MINI, DRV2625

Hello,

I am using the DRV2525EVM-CT to evaluate an external LRA device.
I would like to set the LRA device inside the enclosure and evaluate it using I2C communication from outside, but I need to press and hold the + button once to change the DRV2625EVM-CT to I2C mode.
If possible, I would like to change to I2C mode automatically when I turn on the DRV2625EVM-CT. Is there a good way to do this?

Best regards.

Taku

  • Hi Taku,

Please give me a day or two to look into this issue.

    Thank you!

    Best,

  • Hi Taku,

It seems like changing the DRV2625EVM-CT firmware so it is not necessary to hold down the + button is the best solution. I have attached the files here.

  • Hi Christine

    Thank you for your support.

I tried to update to the firmware you provided using CCS, but it did not improve the problem.
I am currently using the "DRV2625EVM-CT-1p10" firmware to use the evaluation board with Win10, so when I change to the firmware you provided, the I2C communication with the PC does not work.

I have a question about the firmware you gave me.
・I received three files, a MAP file, an OUT file, and a txt file, but only the txt file can be referenced by CCS. Can you please tell me how to use the other two?

    Best regards.

    Taku

  • Hi Taku,

These files are the same as the text file, but they are in a different format for a different environment. It is possible to provide the source code, but we will not provide support for editing the firmware, unfortunately.

  • Hi Christine,

Thank you. I understand about the files.
Does this mean that it is difficult to change to I2C mode when the power is turned on?

Also, if I use DRV2625EVM-MINI, can I solve this problem?

    Best regerds.

  • Hi Taku,

I think if you can change the source code, it may potentially be easier. It would be something you would have to test to see if it works so I'm not sure how difficult it would ultimately be.

I think that using DRV2625EVM-MINI would be a better option. It allows you to externally connect with I2C without need to change different modes.

  • Hi Christine.

    Thank you.
Please let me ask some questions again.

Do I have to edit the source code of the DRV2625EVM-CT in the way described in the "Modifying or Reprogramming the Firmware" section of the datasheet?

Am I correct in assuming that when using the DRV2625EVM-MINI, the DRV2625EVM-CT will only operate in I2C mode?

    Best regards.

    Taku

  • Hi Taku,

I believe that section of the datasheet might be a good approach if you would still like to edit the firmware, but it seems like this is mainly to manipulate the EVM for new haptics effects.

I would still recommend the DRV2625EVM-MINI. You do not need the DRV2625EVM-CT in this case since this is a simple version to quickly integrate DRV2625 to a system with I2C communication.
