DRV8304: Max voltage differential between VM and VDRAIN

Part Number: DRV8304
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8350,

Hello,

I would like to know how much difference the DRV8304 (and DRV8350) can take between the VM that goes to MOSFETs and the VM that goes into other pins of the IC.

I realise that it's recommended in the datasheet to keep them as close as possible, but due to practical issues we might have to put a filter that separates the VM that goes to MOSFETs from all other VM inputs (VDRAIN, charge pump).

If we have to do that, we would like to know what exactly the consequences are of a difference between the two VMs and how much maximum difference the IC can tolerate.

Thanks in advance,

Vishnu

  • Hi Vishnu,

DRV8304 should not differ by more than 2V between VM and VDRAIN, as shown in this spec below:

Ideally they should be kept as similar as possible because in DRV8304, VCP is generated from VM, so if VM and VDRAIN are different, then VGS monitoring will be affected monitoring the high side gate driver (GHx-SHx).

    Thanks,
    Aaron
