DRV8343-Q1: DRV8343-Q1 EVM software is not opening

Dear all,

I'm trying to evaluate DRV8343-Q1 EVM but the software is not opening on my desktop.

I've also tried the same on my laptop also. But the same result. I'm not able to open the software. It just tries to on and stops.

Kindly help me.

Hi Adarsh,

Are you running Windows 10? You may be missing an app runtime.

Do you have something like this in your Program Files?

Hi Adarsh,

I have some feedback:

The real location for all content of installation (assuming default location was chose) is in C:\Users\WindowsUserID\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v(RuntimeVersion), RuntimeVersion is application dependent and it can range from 6-11. Inside there should be a folder that matches application name and a win32 or runtime folder.

It would be useful to get a screen capture of above directories to do a quick check whether everything was installed properly.

If yes, then next step would be to check if “DRV8343-Q1EVM/launcher.exe” works.

If this does not bring the gui then next step would be check whether "C:\Users\ WindowsUserID \guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v(RuntimeVersion)\{win32|runtime}\node-webkit\nw.exe" can be started. Last test should show a window that displays node-webkit version information.

Hi Adarsh,

Can you reinstall the DRV GUI?

During installation you will be shown a few screens, including two below. You need to look for runtime in the directory shown on first picture below “Runtime Directory”. The directory will not be exact since it is user specific. I would also also make sure to choose “Download from web” option as shown in second picture.

Hi Adarsh,

You need to run the executables to install the GUI and firmware. This is just the contents of the Zip file.

Hi Adarsh,

The one tricky part is that the .zip file contains an exe and another .zip (two files), thus in order for installer to work, the downloaded .zip needs to be extracted to a folder and then executable run from extracted folder. Windows allows you to browse .zip files but it does not extract them, thus running executable from there probably will not work. You should have gotten an error stating that a app file (second .zip) can not be located. The error would look like picture below:

Hi Aaron,

First of all the downloaded file contains only two .exe files. See the image attached.

Second, I don't have any kind of these errors. Actually, a few months ago that is in August 2021, we were able to use the software and evaluate the board. But now only I'm getting this issue. I haven't changed anything on the system. I don't know how this is possible, there is no change in the system plus the software which I installed months ago is not opening now. I have the same problem with my laptop also. I have checked yesterday on it. It's not working.

Hi Adarsh,

A colleague of mine was able to run the app installer and install it on their system and run the app without HW. They did get a security pop up asking them for installation reason, which is an IT security setting on corporate PCs.

This app installer was possibly not signed and hence some windows security (or maybe IT settings) is blocking this app from running on your PC.
