DRV10983-Q1: How to detect when there is no motor connected?

Hi team,

I'd like to know whether we can monitor some parameters of DRV10983 and feedback to MCU when the motor load is unconnected to IC.

I asked this because customer developed a platform and drive 4 motors. But in another project, they want to use the same platform and drive only 2 motors. So they want achieve this detection.

Hi Iris,

Yes, it is possible to detect "No motor" in DRV10983-Q1. Device monitors phase U current after transitioning from open loop to closed loop. If phase U current is not
greater than 140 mA then the device triggers "No motor" fault by setting bit 3 in fault register (address 0x00) to 1. Please make sure LockEn3 (bit 11) in CONFIG5 Register is set HIGH to enable this function.
