DRV8701: Braking method suggestion

Part Number: DRV8701

Hallo,

I had some test with DRV8701EVM board used to drive a brushed DC motor with an inertial load. VM (40V) is simpy a transformer, a full diode bridge and 10000uF capacitor.

No problem during the acceleration ramp: driver can control the current and I can have a contant torque ramp. As I supposed the problem is how to control the current and the drive during brake.

First test was to set PWM to 0: the driver was ok but the current is too high for my motor.

Second test, just to verify if I've understood, was to set PWM at 10% in reverse rotation: the current limit work and the result was similar to the first test.

Third test was "how to destry the DRV8701EVM"... I changed the PWM from 80% to 40% and, I suppose due to the regenerative braking, I destroyed the DRV8701EVM.

Could you please suggest a safe method to use DRV8701 for braking or share some schematics or application note?

Thanks for help!
