DRV8353RS-EVM: nfault issue

Part Number: DRV8353RS-EVM

Hi,

I just got a DRV8353RS-EVM and use TI GUI(1.0.0) to control a PMSM. VM is 24V. No SW involve.

I can see the motor idenfifcaiton . then the motor can spin and I can control its speed. but I just noticed the nfault led is keep blinking. and the fault is VDS_OCP ( BTW, Occasionally, VDS_HC fault can see. I don't know why?)

so, I tried to set the VDS_OCP threshold from 0.06 V and 2 V, but still can't stop reporting this issue. and the nfault led keep blinking.  would you please suggest if anything wrong here? thanks.

  • Hi Yuan,
Given that you have changed the VDS_OCP threshold from 0.06V to 2V and are still seeing the nFAULT LED blink, it appears that a shoot-through may be occurring. What gate current are you driving the FETs at (IDRIVE)? An incorrect setting is a common cause of shoot-through events. Also, please try the following:

    • Monitor GHC, SHC, GLC, and FAULT pins during motor commutation and post the waveform (trigger on nFAULT going low). This will help us see if a shoot-through event is occurring and diagnose the exact fault.
    • Read the status registers when nFAULT goes low and latches

    Thanks!

    Tyler McCulloch
