DRV8316: Interface issue

Part Number: DRV8316

Hi team,

Here's an issue from the customer may need your help:

Does the DRV8316T compare to the DRV8316R only with the communication interface or is there any other differences?

And is the DRV8316T a dominant product? TI also does not offer the 8316T EVM. Is it not stronger recommended? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry!

The "R" vision of the device is the SPI version. The "T" version of the device is the hardware version.

In general, there is more configurability with SPI devices than hardware devices. The R version of the device allows for easier monitoring of faults as well. Engineers can read what specifically caused a fault to occur with the SPI variant. This is more challenging in hardware. This means the device is easier to use during the development/troubleshooting cycle.

Overall, the R variant is more useful than the T variant, which is why the EVM uses the R variant. We would highly recommended utilizing the SPI variant of the device.

Let me know if this resolves your question!
