Hi Team,

Good day! I am posting this on behalf of the customer. I want to use the DRV8842 to drive a small AC induction motor.

I envision using 2 PWM channels an MSP430, 1 on IN1, and 1 on IN2 to make the alternating current waveform.

I am not sure whether there will be issues with decay in this application.

Jonathan,

I would suggest the DRV8844. It has very low deadtime and prop delay so that low and high duty cycle signals can be passed more cleanly to the outputs to reproduce the best sinewave.

Thanks Ryan! Unfortunately I need -55°C operation, and I don't see that offered in the DRV8844. I'll be checking for deadtime and prop delay issues on the DRV8842. I do plan on adding an LC filter on the motor outputs.

Sounds good Emmett, did you find what you're looking for in the DRV8842?

We don't have many chips rated for that low of temperature. Many of our chips are rated to -40C operating temp - if they're constantly running a motor that might keep the chip temperature in the normal operating range. We don't have an under-temperature fault on any/many chips, so you're welcome to test the chips in your environment and see how they behave and they won't automatically shut off on their own.

You can't even apply power to startup below the operating T.
