DRV8244-Q1: transition from OLP to normal operation

Part Number: DRV8244-Q1

Hello team,

If the customer would like to do the normal motor operation immediately after the OLP completed, are there anything they need to care?

For example, motor output might delay, or nFALUT might delay to return to high etc.

Regards,

Hirata

  • Hirata-san,

Morita-san can respond next Tuesday.  Hope this is OK.

  • Hi Hirata san,

Thank you for your question. Which variant customer is going to use?

nFault may need to toggle right after back from OLP mode by DRVOFF toggle in H-Variant. So MCU should take care of it. External R/C makes some delay so MCU should take care of it.

  • Hi Morita-san,

    Thanks for your answer.

    They are using H-variant. (DRV8244HQDGQRQ1)

Let me ask you for the correct understanding.

nFault may need to toggle right after back from OLP mode by DRVOFF toggle in H-Variant.

Q1. Why does nFaul need to toggle right after back from OLP? Is this for the proper operation of the DRV8244? or Is it just to prevent the MCU from judging there is a fault condition when the fault does not exist?

Q2. if there is no RC component in nFAULT line, the nFAULT will become high immediately after back from OLP mode, right?

nFault may need to toggle right after back from OLP mode by DRVOFF toggle in H-Variant.

Q3. To achieve "nFAULT toggle to High righ after back from OLP", do you mean what they should do is to reduce the RC components in the nFAULT line?

So MCU should take care of it.

Q4. How to take care it?

Maybe some of the question are redundant, but I would like to know your answer accurately.

Thank you so much for the support.

    Hirata

  • Hi Hirata san,

In H-Variant and OLP, OLP_CMP output signal goes to nFAULT. For example, Red circled case is "L". If DRV back to normal operation from this OLP case, nFAULT pin should toggle from Low to High. (I am assuming no fault condition. So nFAULT = High in normal operation).

Easier way to say: MCU better to wait monitoring nFAULT pin 2-3us after exit from OLP. 2-3us is just my quick guess, toggling could be done less than 2-3us.

  • Hi Morita-san,

    Thanks for your answer.

    I understood.

    I appreciate your support.
