MCF8316A: Buck circuitry required?

Greetings,

If we're not planning on using an external MCU to drive the MCF8316A, is the buck circuitry still required, or can we leave any or all of it unpopulated?

For example, using a simple analog pot referenced from AVDD to supply analog throttle control, and a switch to toggle the direction.

Hi Kevin,

The buck regulator is required to power certain internal circuitry in the MCF8316A, so you need to have the external components populated. If you're not planning on using it to power external load, you could configure it in resistor mode.
