DRV8245-Q1: Full Bridge Load Short to Supply Detection

Part Number: DRV8245-Q1

Hi Team,

When the DRV8245-Q1 is driving a load in a full bridge configuration, if either side of the load is shorted to supply how will the device react?

1. From looking at the datasheet it seems that in an off state, the impedance from the output pin to VM (supply) would be lower than the 100Ω threshold.

2. Or in the active state, a low side over current protection could trip.

Are these the only two ways to identify a short to supply fault on the output in a full bridge scenario?

In terms of indication, I see that there is the FAULT_SUMMARY Register, OCP_Lx bits in STATUS1 register, and the OLP_CMP bit in STATUS2 register. Otherwise the nFault pin will trigger on these fault states. Is there any other indication or ways the DRV8245-Q1 would identify a short to VM scenario?

Thanks,

Justin
