DRV8452: Regarding microstepping interpolation

Part Number: DRV8452
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8462

Hi support team.

I have a question setting of microstepping interpolation.

When microstep setting is 1/256, can interpolation level sets 1/256?

If no, what level can it be set?

Best regards,

Higa

  • Higa-san,

Checking with one of our experts on this device.  Will respond soon!

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • Higa-san,

The maximum microstep setting supported by the DRV8452 and DRV8462 is 1/256. Further interpolation is not possible with auto microstepping. In this case the device will operate with1/256 microsteps, auto microstepping will be ignored.

  • Hi Murugavel-san

    I apologize for the delay.

    Thank you for your answering.

    I have some additional questions.

    1. I think that if microstep setting is 1/32 then the number of interpolated steps are  8, is this correct?
If no, what are the number of interpolated steps?

    2. Related to question 1, from which microstep setting is the automatic microstep interpolation function enabled?

    Best regards,

    Higa

  • Higa san,

    1. Yes correct. If auto-microstepping RES_AUTO is set at 1/256 and the device microsteps is set at 1/32 then 8 interpolated steps will be inserted between every microstep resulting with 1/256 usteps for the current waveform.

    2. When enabled auto-microstepping will work from any microstep setting in the device starting with full-step up to the microsteps setting one less than the RES_AUTO value setting. If the device microstep setting is equal to or higher than the RES_AUTO setting then current output will remain at the device microstep setting. Please refer to pages-23 and 24 of the datasheet https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv8452.pdf for further information.

  • Hi Murugavel-san

    Thank you for your answering.

I got the EVM yesterday, so I'll see how it works.

I will contact you again if I have any questions.

    Thanks

    Regards

    Higa
