DRV8842: failure during transport

Part Number: DRV8842

Hi TI,

I have 2 DRV8842s on my board connected to 2 linear actuators as part of a product. The connection between the actuator and the DRV8842 on my board goes through a panel mount connector and a board connector. The actuators drove both actuators as expected one day, the next day I transported the product in a van maybe 30 miles later, and the actuators no longer worked. After a while, the actuators worked and then after more transport, 200 miles, the actuators stopped working again. The issue is not from the actuators or the wiring because when I swap boards the actuators work. It seems like the act of transport affects the driver.

I'm still to identify where the failure is, the outputs, inputs etc. but I wanted to ask the question to see if this issue has been seen before.

Thank you,

Louis

  • Hi Louis,

It's hard to say what occurred during the transportation to make the system fail. Many things could occur.

How many units had the same issue after transportation?

You mentioned the actuators work after replacing the controller board. Did you try replacing only the driver chip on the faulty board with a new chip?
