DRV8803: DRV8803 EMI issues

Part Number: DRV8803

we are planning to use DRV8803 to drive 4 solenoid at a time and solenoid rating is 24V and 100mA. If we are used 4 solenoid to drive at a time and suddenly if i turned of may be 2 or 3 solenoid out of 4 solenoid then will it cause any EMI issue?

  • Hi Shishod,

    I can't really answer your question. EMI is dependent on many factors not only on the number of solenoids being driven.

    I recommend looking at this training video which provides more information on EMC/EMI considerations for motor drivers.

  • Hi Pablo Armet,

    Thanks for your reply..

    I need to know the parasitic capacitance value to find out the noise current. My specifications are given below,

    dv clamp=15V

    dToff=0.3msec

     if you have the parasitic junction capacitance value , please share it ..if you don't have the value can i know will it impact  the scenario (3 solenoid is ON/OFF) then INOISE will it impact on 4th solenoid ?

  • Hi Shishod,

    The junction parasitic is very low and I don't expect it to affect EMI noise. It becomes important in RF applications where the frequency can be in the high GHz range. For motor driver applications, what matters is the parasitics of the PCB traces, length of power and motor cables, etc.

    I found this other training video with more information on motor EMC design guidelines.
