BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM: Motor Driver Pins

Hi Ali,

Why do you need to use 2 BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM modules, as one is enough to drive one motor?

No, the encoder wires have to be connected to the microcontroller as the motor driver doesn't have encoder interface.

I'm using 2 DC Motors. That's my bad I should've said "Motors" not "Motor". Do you think there is a way to connect the encoder to the microcontroller somehow?

1. Encoder is SPI slave, and motor driver SPI is also salve (if it has the SPI pins); so they cannot be connected.

2. Your microprocessor controls the PWMHx and PWMLx, and so it should read the encoder feedback and control the PWM signals. The microcontroller should have spi bus to connect to the encoder.

Why do you need to have encoders?

Connect two encoders SPI to the same microcontroller, but using a chip select CS signal to select which encoder to talk to. It could be implemented using GPIO pin.

The driver spi port is for the host processor to read the fault status and to set the motor drive parameters such as gate drive slew rate, FET overcurrent protection and so on, but this SPI port cannot interface to encoder.

I think my question should be where are the encoder interface in the C2000 FLAUNCHXL-F28069M?

keep in mind that I plan 2 motors so I plan to use 2 encoders.

The encoder you wanted to use has SPI interface, so you just need to search for the SPI keyword in the microprocessor pinout datasheet. There are 2 SPI modules provided by the processor. Can you do a search or find (Ctrl F key) on the datasheet?
