DRV8837C: Protection and bulk capacitor circuit.

I am using the DRV8837C to control latching solenoids and latching relays and might, in the future, also control non-latching devices. I will be powering them with 11V.

Do I need to add any additional protection components?

In regards to the bulk capacitor, as mentioned in section 9.1, what should be the recommended value? Should a 10uF ceramic capacitor be adequate?

Hello,

I personally don't think it is a good idea to operate a device at the max. operating voltage of 11V...in this case.

We have plenty of other motor drivers available with more headroom on the supply.

DRV8220 is one example.

Bulk capacitance depends on many factors. This is a great app note on the topic.

Dear Ryan

We have several reels of DRV8837C, therefore would like to use them first before we change this IC.

If am correct the MAX voltage for this device is 12V, if need I can operate at 10.5V, but need to use this IC.

The abs. max is 12V. This should not be exceeded.

I aim to use 10-11 V Max.

These will be the short pulses of 300-500ms max, these are to control latching valves and solenoids.
