DRV8704: drv8704

Part Number: DRV8704

DRV8704

Dear Sir/Madam,

We use the DRV8704 in multiple products. The DRV8704 controls MOSFETS in an H-bridge configuration for brushed DC motor control purposes (PWM 18kHz). Sometimes the DRV8704 produces a gate driver fault. We can overcome this behaviour in two ways:

1.      By connecting an extra 470uF capacitor to +24V

2.      By resetting the error via SPI

Regarding these solutions we have two questions:

1.      Can you explain how method one resolves this issue?

2.      Can the internals of the DRV8704 get damaged if gate driver fault occurs frequently on a regular basis and resetting the error accordingly via SPI?

Note we use the DRV8704 with all ISENS inputs (4x) connected to ground. Register settings are default, except for the ISGAIN which is set to 5V/V. Note in the schematic below default a 470uF capacitor is connector to +24V.

Kind regards Jan Paul van Overhagen
