DRV8432: Threshold current of OCP

Part Number: DRV8432

Hello Experts,

My customer would like to know whether the triggered current of OCP will vary by temperature or not. Because customer did some test and triggered current of OCP has varied. It seems that a triggered current sift lower if temperature is raised. Is it reasonable result?

Best Regards,
Fujiwara

  • Hey Fujiwara,

The OCP might vary by temperature, I'm not seeing that data in the datasheet either.  OCP is designed for system protection and not precise current control.

The change in resistance of the shunt resistor could also affect OCP in this case, depending on the shunt resistor material (Manganin with a very low thermal coefficient vs a different material) if the shunt resistor is heating up with the driver. On a related note, we have a note about different sense-resistor layouts.

    Regards,

    Jacob
