DRV8812: Adding soft start

Part Number: DRV8812

Hi Team,

Good day. I would like to know if there is a way to add a soft start to a motor driver IC without an integrated soft-start function such as DRV8812. I wanted to know if increasing the bootstrap capacitor would work in delaying the start-up time of the H-Bridge FETs.

Thank you.

Regards,

Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

To confirm, you are asking how to soft start the motor when turning it ON. Essentially, you want the motor to slowly speed up to its target speed?

If you're design allows it, one way to soft start the motor is by slowing ramping the PWM duty cycle until it reaches the desired value.
