DRV8962: DRV8962 driving issue...

Part Number: DRV8962

Hi team,

As the last post for this question, the issue still not fixed and did not have a workable solution.

(1) DRV8962: Cannot drive integrated capacitor Motor issue. - Motor drivers forum - Motor drivers - TI E2E support forums

Here are the summary and questions for the issue. Please help to give me advice.

1. If the customer wants to modify the cap value inner the motor, which uF will be suggested?

2. Is it possible to fix the issue with the external circuit/components? What modification are your recommend?

Thanks.

  • Peter,

For #1, customer did not want to modify motor before.

It has already been installed. Purpose: The motor manufacturer recommended it to be installed by the laboratory debug technician in order to pass the EMC test. We do not want to modify the capacitor value because the motor manufacturer must send it to the EMC for re-calibration.

    But if they do, I = Cdv/dt

"C" has to be small enough to avoid triggering OCP which is 8A.  dV is the delta voltage...VCC in their schematic...and dt = 70ns.  If you can find out VCC value, you can do the calculation for C.

For #2, they can add some series inductance between our driver and motor to slow down the current ramp and avoid OCP.

    Regards,

    Ryan
