DRV8243-Q1: Open Load Detection in ON State in HW variant.

Part Number: DRV8243-Q1

Hi team,

According to DRV8243-Q1 DS, On-State Diagnostics (OLA) are only available on the SPI Variant.

is there a workaround possible to have open load or Short to BATT while operation (ON) in the HW variant?

Thanks,

Juan.

  • Hi Juan,

    Thank you for your question.

OLA is not "On State Diagnostics". OLA is "Active state Open load diagnostics".

    Here is for HW variant.

Short to battery can be detected on-state(active state) with over current protection.

Open load can be detected by Off state diagnostic.

Another option for open load detection is re use IPROPI (Current sense) function. IPROPI could not be perfect solution but IPROPI could show differently while open load condition. Customer may use this for open load detection.

My recommendation is to use Off state diagnostic for open load detection.

  • Hello Shinya,

    Thanks for your answer.

Can you further develop how IPROPI could be used for Open-Load detection in ON-state?

    What are the incoviniences?

    Thanks,

    Juan.

  • Hi Juan,

DRV8243-Q1 has current sense on high side FET and IPROPI pin as current sense output. While motor is connected, IPORPI provide waveform based on motor current. If output is open, IPROPI output could be nothing. Customer could use this information.
