MCF8316A: Driver may stop working when MCU read data by I2C

You are likely running into this issue. Try running the motor with EVM while "auto read motor status" is disabled. This may help resolve your issue. Depending on your current requirement, you may consider using MCF8315A (4 A peak) where this issue is resolved.

Hi Robert,

RD tested MCF8315A and the performance of I2C and speed control is ok. Because the maximum current of motor spec is up to 4A, RD inquired whether MCF8315A high current part.

Orange: SPEED/Wake pin (MCU DAC out), Blue: Motor Speed

The SPEED is controlled by FG signal. Is the response delay of MCF8316A caused by "FG output has a one cycle distortion"?

Hi David,

What is the PWM switching frequency the device is set at for the waveform of the MCF8316? If it falls within the those values, this could be the issue we are seeing on the MCF8316. 

Can you try running both devices with the same motors at the same switching frequencies to test if this is the resolution?
