DRV8243-Q1: VM off during operation

Part Number: DRV8243-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1663

Hello team,

Is it okay for DRV8243 to operate in condition where VM is going to be OFF constantly?

My customer is considering to use DRV8243 for solenoid with the configuration below.

+24V -> TPS1663(eFuse) -> VM of DRV8243

They put TPS1663 to reduce the current pulled by the solenoid from the power supply, and compensate the remaining current from Cout CAP.

However, when the customer drove the solenoid, the TPS1663 disconnects the 24V power supply for VM constantly, and he is worried if it is going to affect the DRV8243 operation.

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

    It looks like the customer is considering the "P" variant with external logic supply.  In this case, loss of VM will not impact the internal registers or operation of the device.

    The only concern is with an over-voltage condition on VM with inductive kickback with supply suddenly goes away.  As long as overshoots greater than VM abs. max do not occur, the device will be protected.

    Regards,

    Ryan
