BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM: Motor not working

Hi Team,

Can you help with the troubleshooting below?

A customer is FOC control model for BLDC motors provided by MATLAB and the customer followed the hardware connection as described here. The customer can build and load the project successfully to the launchpad and confirm that the launchpad is receiving the instruction from the PC (the blue LED is active) but the motor was not running.

I suggest that the customer try to Isolate the LAUNCHXL-F28069M USB by removing JP1 - JP3 and power the system through BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM but it does not help. I also told the customer to check if this forum thread helps but alas, it does not.

The custmer is using a bly 172s 24v 4000 with a dc power supply ( 24V and 3 A). they tested the motor with another control board in open loop with the same rating power and it works fine.

does this mean that the BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM is dead?

Hi Marvin,

Thank you for posting to the Motor Driver's forum!

In order to verify that the EVM is still working, the customer can power the EVM and PWM the INHx/INLx signals, using a function wave generator or something similar, and monitor the corresponding GHx/GLx/SHx pins to see if the output gate driver signals are responding.

Hi Alicia,

which pins can visualize the INHx/INLx signals, are they as shown by the attached picture?

Also, for the test setup, I need to power the inverter board and disconnect it from the launchpad and visualize those signals, right??

Hi Marvin,

Yes, you would need to disconnect the EVM with the launchpad and power the EVM. From here you can PWM one of the INHx/INLx signals using a function wave generator or something similar.

I would recommend referring to section 5.5 BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM Schematic of the BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM User's Guide for a more accurate representation of the pin connections for this EVM.

Hi Alicia,

Thanks, After connecting the inverter board to the power supply ( 3A-24V), this is the state of the inverter board.

The INHx/INLx signals is visualized and this is the result.
