DRV8461: Voltage monitoring issues

Part Number: DRV8461

Hi Dear,

Referring to the evaluation board of DRV8461, it is necessary to monitor the AOUT1/AOUT2/BOUT1/BOUT2/VM  voltage, which requires 5 ADC interfaces. as shown in the following figure.

However, the built-in ADC peripheral resources of the microcontroller are insufficient. May I ask if voltage detection can be omitted?

  • Hey Anna,

The microcontroller used in the EVM has the ports for the Vsense if that was your concern.

But if you were trying to make your own solution with a separate MCU, then it is up to you if would like the ability to be able to monitor the voltages of Vm and the outputs. The driver does not take these values as inputs so you don't need to monitor them.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,
    Akshay

  • Hi Anna,

Yes voltage monitoring of the phase outputs and VM voltage is not necessary in a stepper application with this device. These were provided in our EVM for internal research work. Please feel free to omit these.

VM monitoring is natively available in the device via CTRL14 register in the DRV8461/62/52 devices.
