You could use a series resistor to limit the output current, but there's no way internal to the device to control the current. The output current will be a function of the PWM signal given to the device versus the load attached.

Could you help tell what are the function relationships? Is the voltage at the output divided by the resistance of the motor to get the current magnitude?

Yes that's correct. So adding a resistor is effectively creating a voltage divider with the load. The power delivered at the load will be less, but that's unavoidable.
