DRV8262EVM: Unable to connect after firmware upgrade

Part Number: DRV8262EVM

I was able to connect once to the DRV8262EVM board. The GUI offered a firmware update. Followed the instructions in the Users Guide and loaded the update. At some point during the update a message appeared about the connection being lost. The update must not have completed successfully. I am now unable to connect to the EVM. The MCU_STATUS blinks at a rate of about once a second. There are no MSP COMxx ports enumerated in the device manager. What is present is an HID device VID_2047&PID_0203 which seems to be an eZ-FET boot loader. Power has been cycled for both the EVM and the PC.

Does the firmware need to be reloaded? If so, what is the procedure?

  • Hello Cary,

Thanks for posting in this forum. Sorry you are having issues with the EVM connectivity. For further debug, switch off the VM motor power supply - not needed for USB enumeration for this EVM. You can turn this on after resolving the GUI <> EVM connection issues.

You mentioned "I was able to connect once to the DRV8262EVM board. The GUI offered a firmware update.". This tells me you had everything setup correctly. Did you use the cloud version of the GUI or its desktop? Were you using the GUI version 1.0.3?

As soon as you connect the EVM USB to the computer, does the green LED D2 light up solid in addition to the blinking MCU_STATUS LED? If it does not, check and see if jumper shorts on J10 are properly populated as per the EVM UG, https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slou558

Solid green D2 should result with MSP COMxx ports enumerated. If they were not enumerated you may not have the MSP USB drivers installed in your computer. Page-4 of the EVM UG has the link for downloading and installing the MSP430_FET_Drivers.

After installing these drivers you can perform another firmware update even if the GUI did not successfully recognize the EVM. These steps should get you resolve this issue. I double checked the GUI 1.0.3 with an DRV8262EVM I had with me. It connected as expected after performing a firmware update. During firmware update the red LED D1 will be flashing to indicate the firmware update process progress. After programming is done D1 will be off.

  • Hi Murugavel,

It took several tries. On the 3rd attempt, the firmware loaded without error. The EVM is connecting again.

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Cary.

  • Hi Cary,

I'm glad it worked. Thanks for letting us know.
