DRV8350S-EVM: Understanding the Firmware of the Debugger IC (MSP430F5528IRGCT)

Part Number: DRV8350S-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5528

Dear TI Team,

I am currently in the process of designing a custom hardware solution for my BLDC Motor drive, drawing inspiration from the reference design (MD015A Design Files) provided for DRV8350S-EVM, which can be accessed through the following link: https://www.ti.com/tool/DRV8350S-EVM.

Based on my analysis of the reference design, it appears that an external MCU (MSP430F5528IRGCT) serves as an external debugger for programming the main MCU (MSP430F5529IPNR). To facilitate a seamless integration process, I seek clarification on the status of the firmware preloaded onto the external MCU (MSP430F5528IRGCT).

Specifically, I would like to inquire whether the external MCU comes preflashed with the requisite firmware for its role as an external debugger, or if there is a need to install specific firmware onto this MCU to enable it to function in this capacity.

Your prompt assistance and clarification on this matter would greatly contribute to the progress of my hardware design project. I appreciate your attention to this inquiry and look forward to your valuable guidance.

Thank you for your time and cooperation.

Best Regards,

Gagandip Singh Dadhwal
