DRV8262EVM: Impossible to clear fault and supply shorted when powered

Part Number: DRV8262EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8262,

Hello there,

I would need your help because I recently got a DRV8262EVM board. It worked perfectly until I don't know why, device(DRV8262) started to heat up a lot with no reason (the motor was working OK), and then I had a fault.

Now it is impossible to clear this fault, and furthermore my supply is shorted when I try to power it up (however it is not shorted when not powered up), and it is shorted even if I put like 0.20V !

Can you please give me a hand on this ? Thank you very much.

I'm using locad GUI 1.0.2

Best regards,

Mehdi Abdelmoula

  • Hello Mehdi,

Thank for posting in this forum. What was the VM supply used for testing and what was the motor running current? I assume the motor was tested mechanically unloaded. It appears you may have damaged the driver but a instant off of the motor running at 100 % duty cycle. The load dump could have pumped up the VM supply beyond safe operating levels or an instant on inrush may not have been properly mitigated and damaged the device.

You have two options. 1) You could sample a DRV8262 from TI e-store and rework the EVM - this is assuming there was no other damage to the EVM or 2) Request for an RMA and return this EVM to the vendor and get a replacement.
