DRV8302: overcurrent fault and buck vs. driver PVDD

Part Number: DRV8302
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8301,

Is there any reason I would not be able to operate the DRV8301 (or 8301) with slightly different voltages applied to PVDD2 and PVDD1 (24V nominal)?  The reason for doing this is to allow removal of power to the motor and driver while keeping the controlling logic (microprocessor) "alive".  The buck power rail PVDD2 would be one diode drop (0.5-0.7V) lower than the driver power rail PVDD1.

Based on the datasheet stating that these two power rails are completely independent, I think we should be able to do this...but what is happening is the driver is triggering nFAULT where as with both PVDD1 and PVDD2 from the same source everything works just fine.
