DRV8302: BIAS pin - resistor OR cap to ground?

The data sheet couldn't be less ambiguous about which component should be used on the BIAS pin to ground. What is the function of the BIAS pin? The pin function table on page 4 says "Bias pin. Connect 1M-Ω resistor to GND, or 0.1 μF capacitor to GND."

However, the various documentation shows both being used without any explanation (not that I could find anyway). The functional block diagram on page 12 shows a capacitor on BIAS. The typical application of page 21 and layout example on page 25 shows a 1Mohm resistor on BIAS. Some of the older BOOSTXL EVM schematics show a 0.1uF cap on BIAS. What is the correct component to use and more importantly, why?
