DRV8842-EP: Current flow through H -Bridge of DRV8842-EP

Part Number: DRV8842-EP

I would like to get some more clarity on the working of the DRV8842-EP. I have few doubts regrading H-Bridge operation configuration.

In the above image - direction of current flow shown by 1 is for the condition when IN1 – 1  &  IN2 – 0

What would be the flow of current for the remaining truth table configurations ?

Thanks & Regards

Sudesh

  • Hi Sudesh,

Like you said current path 1 is for drive direction with IN1 =1 and IN2 =0. Path 2 shows fast decay. Path 3 is low-side recirculation also referred to as slow decay or brake which happens while IN1 =0 and IN2 =0. For the opposite direction drive IN1 =0 and IN2 =1, path 1 and path 2 are interchanged. Path 3 remains the same.

The last row in the table is not used unless some application prefers high side HS recirculation for slow decay while IN1 = 1 and IN2 =1. This can be ignored for common use cases of the PWM control for the H-bridge.

  • Hi Murugavel,

Thanks for the detailed explaination. It cleared my confusion. Really appreciate the help.
