DRV8353RS-EVM: DRV8353RS Custom board is not working

Part Number: DRV8353RS-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8353

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with the gate driver DRV8353RS it is failing after level 2, this is happening during bring-up with no-load of NEMA 17 24V 4000RPM BLDC motors.

1. First we connected the NEMA 17 24V 4000RPM BLDC motors, There is no consistency in  motor running sometimes running and sometimes not running, motor was running only at 30V not 24V. Finally ,Resistance estimation is not correct because same 24V tested in Drv8353 EVM board
it was fine and running smooth. But right now the custom board we are facing this kind of issues.

2. During code flashing/debugging, DRV8353RS fault red LED gets suddenly ON and overcurrent faults is 1. Also DRV8353RS IC is getting heated during this condition.

3. Build_LEVEL_1 setup meets as per expectation but Drv8353 chip is continuously failing. Even we tried change the IDRIVE current setting from IDRIVEP_HS = 0.010A to IDRIVEP_HS = 1.000A no change in response and still Drv8353 chip is failing in custom board.

Requesting to you please arrange a call or meeting to discuss in detail.

This is very urgent for us please help.

  • Hi Shambhu,

When you say it is failing at level 2 what does that mean? and Build_Level_1?

Just want to clarify a few things, the customer was able to get the EVM to operate as expected yes? But now with the customers board design the device is not working and heating up? Can you share the customers schematic and layout?

    Regards,

    Yara

  • Hi

Yes your understanding is correct we have tested the motor with DRV835RS EVM and no issues faced.

We have made our custom board referring DRV8353RS EVM schematic, where we are facing the issues.

Can we connect in personal chat or is it possible to arrange a call/meeting so that we can share the schematic and layout to understand the issues.

    Regards,

    Shambhu
