DRV8873H-Q1EVM: recommended capacitor voltage rating

Part Number: DRV8873H-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8873

Tool/software:

Hello,

while reading the datasheet of the drv8873 I found the general recommendation for the charge pump capacitor "Charge pump output. Connect a 16-V, 1-μF ceramic capacitor from this pin to
the VM supply."

I was wondering if thats the case for any motor voltage (VM). I would expect it to be somehow dependent on vm like the bypass capacitors and others mentioned in the datasheet.

CVM1 VM GND 0.1-μF ceramic capacitor rated for VM
CVM2 VM GND Bulk capacitor rated for VM
CVCP VCP VM 16-V, 1-μF ceramic capacitor
CFLY CPH CPL 47-nF capacitor rated for VM
CDVDD DVDD GND 6.3-V, 1-μF ceramic capacitor

Best regards

Nicolai

  • Hi Nicolai,

Thanks for reaching out to us via this forum.

This is correct. Regardless of VM voltage, we expect the VVCP with respect to VM to be well within this 16 V rating. See below datasheet specification.

  • Hello Murugavel,

Thanks for your fast reply! In this case I can use the 16V rating cap while VM is 25 Volt. My question is aswered even if it would be interesting to know how this internally works. But I think its confidential.

    Thanks again
