DRV8214EVM: I added the Missing R12 (56KOHM) but VM readings in GUI are off by 60%. Also can't update GUI to 2.0.2 it seems always stuck at "update in progress"

Tool/software:

1. I added the missing R12 56K ohm resistor, but the VM readings reported by the GUI 2.0.0 don't match up with that measured on the "VM" terminal. For 3V on VM testpoint, the GUI reports 1.8V For 5.0V on VM the GUI repots 2.9V. so they are reporting about 60% of the actual voltage. Is the resistor value TI gave wrong, or did they change the calculation in later versions of the GUI?

2. I am using the latest DRV821x_DRV823x-EVM-GUI download on the TI website which unfortunately is still 2.0.0. There are no direct download links to 2.0.2. It then says an update is available (2.0.2), and I let it update but it never finishes, just says update in progress and I can't see any network I/O happening so I think the update code doesn't work.

Q1: did the gui later change the calculation and fix the voltage? I haven't run it yet as I'm at home.

Q2: I was hoping for the stand-alone 2.0.2 installer but finally got the web based gui from your link to work. Thank you.

The chrome browser based link also requires a plugin that google warns will be removed soon, and TI cloud agent, but the "installbuilder" installer requires 8.3 filenames to be turned on for some strange reason.

The advice to run command: fsutil 8dot3name set C: 1 would not work on any of my computers.

From an admin command prompt, first I had to run

fsutil behavior set disable8dot3 2,

then

fsutil 8dot3name set C: 1

then install the TI cloud agent,

then I found I could put things back after the install.

fsutil behavior set disable8dot3 1

We have the same phenomenon; despite the updates, it does not solve the problem. You can also look in the forum on this title: DRV8214EVM: VM voltage remains incorrect

Hello Yves, for me my voltages are not stuck at 0.0V. As I said after adding a 56K ohm for R12, my GUI VM voltage reads about 60% of what I measure on VM.

Hey Yves / Dave,

Please just ignore the VM voltage reading in the GUI.

The original version of the EVM had a bad set of voltage divider resistors chosen which resulted in a resistor getting dangerously hot if maximum operating voltage was applied to the EVM. The resistor divider was updated, but our firmware and GUI has no way to identify whether the old or new resistor divider is installed. So until the stock of old EVMs with the past resistor divider is depleted the GUI will display wrong. This will not affect the functionality of the DRV8214 device, only the GUI display.
