DRV8302: Gate Driver Vgs voltage

Part Number: DRV8302

Tool/software:

I'm designing a simple bldc circuit using drv8302, at page 7 of the datasheet say that the Vgs will be in between 9.5V to 11.5V when PVDD is around 8V to 60V, so for example I supply 12V to PVDD, are there any way to calculate Vgs? or I will have to setup a proper circuit and measure it?

Sorry if my question is too simple, I'm trying my best to learn. Thanks for any help.

  • Hello!

I don't think there is a formula that calculates this value but I did find this E2E post that kind of explains what VGx_NORM is:

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers---internal/f/motor-drivers---internal-forum/236755/drv8302-hs-gate-voltage-rating/829272?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=VGX_NORM#829272

So theoretically VGx_NORM should be close to VDD1 + GVDD. I don't know if you necessarily need a circuit built into your design to measure this unless you wanted constant readings of this voltage throughout the application.

Also, no question is too simple for E2E! The purpose of this forum is to provide a resource for engineers to ask their unanswered questions. However, if you are new to the forum I will say that the first step should always be to see if your question or a similar question has already been asked, especially for our older devices you'll find hundreds if not thousands of posts.

If your question has been answered please hit the "this resolved my issue button" and that will close the thread, if not then let me know if you need further clarification!

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding DRV8302, if not you can always search the forum or post another thread.

    Regards,

    Yara
