Hi,
When I used the Excel design tool, the automatically calculated PBUDGET became a negative value, causing an error. Could you please comment on the cause of this error and how to deal with it?
Thanks,
Conor

Hello,
A. Your power budget before selecting FETs QE and QF was 25.27 W.
B. You selected FETs QE and QF: The power loss of QE was calculated to be 14.58 W based on what you entered in the excel tool.
C: The power budget after QE and QF was selected is:
PBUDGET = 25.27 W - PQE-PQF = 25.27 W - 2*PQE = 25.27 W - 2*14.58W = -3.89 W
Because the PBUDGET is negative your efficiency goal cannot be met. That is why you have an error message.
It is like grocery shopping. You buy more groceries than you have money.
My advice to you is to selected different components that dissipate less power or reduce your efficiency goal in your design.
Your efficiency goal can only be achieved if your PBudget is > than 0.
