DRV8353RS-EVM: 1xPWM with 8353 in 4 Quadrant Mode

Part Number: DRV8353RS-EVM

Tool/software:

Is there a diagram showing 4 quadrant mode operation and FET and diode conditions for all 4 quadrants with PWM and PWM! as shown in table 8.3 in 8353 specification. I think this might work for 4 Quad control. However I like to see a current flow per quadrant per Table 8.3 including current flow and polarity conditions.

  • It is a US holiday today.  Please expect some delay.

  • Hi Turguy,

I do not believe we have a figure with information already,  so please allow me to draw it out and follow-up before the end of this week.

  • Hi Turguy,

    Thank you for your patience!

I have built a table for a given phase's FET/body diode conduction paths during each quadrant of motor operation that should help you visualize the activity of the power stage. I believe this should be more helpful and easier to understand than trying to show each path on a physical diagram.

Quadrant Speed Torque PWM State FETs/Diodes Active (for a given phase) Current Path
1 +ve +ve PWM: HS MOSFETs on HS active, LS body diodes Battery → HS → Motor
!PWM: LS diodes conduct LS diodes, HS off Motor → LS diodes → Battery
2 +ve -ve PWM: LS MOSFETs on LS active, HS body diodes Motor → LS → Battery
!PWM: HS diodes conduct HS diodes, LS off Battery → HS diodes → Motor
3 -ve -ve PWM: HS MOSFETs on HS active, LS body diodes Battery → HS → Motor
!PWM: LS diodes conduct LS diodes, HS off Motor → LS diodes → Battery
4 -ve +ve PWM: LS MOSFETs on LS active, HS body diodes Motor → LS → Battery
!PWM: HS diodes conduct HS diodes, LS off Battery → HS diodes → Motor

I hope this helps you with your evaluation and understanding. And if there are any additional questions please feel free to reach out again!

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua
