If you are driving a purely capacitive load using DRV8837 , then the driver will most likely trigger an over-current protection (OCP) fault due to the large inrush current. So it is recommended to drive inductive loads.
May I know what is the end application you are trying to drive. and the current levels which are required?

The bridge will be used to drive hydrophone transducers. The current requirement will be less than 0.4A.

You can look at DRV81xxx family of devices, specifically DRV81602-Q1. These devices have a bulb in rush mode which can help in driving capacitive loads.
