ULC1001-DRV2911EVM: On board MSP430 programming

Part Number: ULC1001-DRV2911EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Tool/software:

Hi TI team,

I need some clarifications on programming ULC1001-DRV2911 EVM and those are listed below.

1. Does the on board MSP430F5510IRGZR in ULC1001-DRV2911 EVM is already programmed for the TI's prototype LCS-FL-RNG15? or user need to program? ( My understanding is once after EVM is calibrated and all modes are configured in GUI then that file has to be loaded in MCU for evaluating cleaning and calibration mode by push bottom available in EVM. Is my understanding is right?)

2. If it should be programmed by user after those configurations how to program the EVM and any other hardware tools to be purchased? If yes, please suggest tools that supports MSP430F5510IRGZR for programming.

3. Can I directly connect EVM to my PC using USB interface via J8 connector (0475901001) and program it? What is the use case of J8 connector and USB interface in EVM?

4. Any other method for programming MCU in EVM?

  • 1. Yes, it is already programmed for TI's prototype LCS-FL-RNG15. The EVM has the default configuration file so it can run the different mode without using GUI. Or the users can use GUI and change the settings to evaluate the difference.

    2. Please refer to the section of 3.3.5.2.1 in the EVM user guide for Firmware programming.  A MSP-FET tool is needed to program the MSP430. https://www.ti.com/tool/MSP-FET

    3. It was initially designed for debug and programming, but it is not activated and not functional for users. Please still refer to the section of 3.3.5.2.1 in the EVM user guide for firmware programming.

    4. There are some other MSP430 programming tools but they are have similar processes. You can refer to the MCUs Development Guide Book for more info.
