DRV8714H-Q1EVM: spi interface with the ra6m2 renesas processor

Hi,

I have hooked up the drv8714 to the Renesas RA6M2 processor on the spi lines. The sleep pin is active high so I do see traffic on the SPI line. I am just trying to read the id register 0x06. I am writing two bytes 0x46, 0x00 to the spi bus but what I get back is 0xC0, 0x8C. I can't figure out what's going on. 

Cany anyone point out what's going on?
