DRV8350: Using internal charge pump to supply AMC device

Part Number: DRV8350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8162, DRV8363-Q1

Tool/software:

hi team,

my customer wants to use drv8350 device's integrated charge pump to supply AMC device as the below picture shows. Is there any problems when the ton of lower side mos is short? my customer is afraid that when the turn on time of low side is short, the charge pump can't be charged to the estimated voltage and the AMC device can't be supplied.

  • Hey Zoey,

Can you send me the DS for the AMC part? Also are they using drv8350 OR drv8162?

    Best,

    Akshay

  • Hi  Akshay,

The AMC device is AMC1306. They are now using DRV8350 and they want to use the same architecture to supply the AMC device. Could u kindly help this? thanks!

  • Hey Zoey,

When using DRV8350 Charge pump there is a concern on the voltage seen by the AMC device during LS ON.
In bootstrap device like DRV8162, the HS supply is floating on SHx, so it will be 12V wrt SHx during HS on and LS ON. But in pure charge pump architecture device like DRV8350 the VCP voltage is 12V above Vdrain so when HS sis on and SHx is 48V then HS supply is 12V above it but when LS is on and SHx = 0V then the AMC part will see 60V. This will need to be accounted for by the customer.

So if the customer wants to use a different 48V driver with BST then they can use DRV8363-Q1 if they are wanting a 3-phase 48V BLDC gate driver.

    Best,

    Akshay
