Tool/software:

I am using the DRV3946-Q1 to drive contactors and would like to support both 12 V and 24 V vehicle batteries.

24 V operation: Will DRV3946-Q1 operate correctly in a 24 V system?
Highlighted datasheet: I’ve attached a snip from the datasheet with a highlighted note. what it means and how it impacts 24 V operation?

Hello Snehal,

Thanks for the question.

DRV3946 can operate with 24V supplies.

The note in the recommended operation condition is to ensure that the device will not support very low inductive shorts above 28V. Typically as long as the supply variation is below this it should be fine.

Thank you for clarification.

I have one more query. In case of loss of SPI or MCU, will this driver able to turn off loads/contactors internally (Limp Home mode)?

HI Snehal,

We have a mode to do this through SPI watchdog.

SPI_WD_SHUTOF F_EN bit can be used to achieve this functionality.

Hello Ibinu,

Regarding above query, if my supply voltage is 29V continuous and inductance of coil is 240mH will it work? Is this IC tested above 28V, as mentioned PVV range is 4.5V to 35V? Is there any other limitation?

Hello Snehal,

Just to be clear the issue will be with the low impedance short circuit event(not the coil inductance).

The device is tested to work till OV condition.
