DRV8334-Q1: GD_CTRL5 register

Good day, colleagues,

My customer would like to use DRV8334-Q1  to drive either

  • A B6 Bridge(3 half bridge) for the BLDC motor OR
  • A H-bridge (2 Half bridge as a H- Bridge) for the DC motor
  • (Not Both BLDC +DC. )

Thus they will have a single PCB layout  with one  DRV8334-Q1 driving either a BLDC or a DC motor (with 1 half bridge depopulated for the DC motor application)

I believe this is supported by DRV8334-Q1, with the support of GD_CTRL5 register .Could you please confirm ?

    Hi Daria,

    GD_CTRL5 is to configure the gate pins behavior based on the conditions listed, this could be helpful when wanting to use 3 phases or just 2 phases however if the customer has plans for some applications to only use two phases there are some layout changes that need to be made. So they wouldn't be able to use the exact same layout for both applications but it would be really close.

    For an unused phase:

    INHx and INLx are tied to GND

    BSTx is floating

    GHx and GLx are floating

    SHx is tied to GND

    SPx and SNx are tied together and to GND

    SOx is floating
