DRV8703-Q1EVM: Current limitation?

Part Number: DRV8703-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8703-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Ti,

What exactly causes the current limitation of the EVM? The mosfets can handle 100A, i see the current sense resistor in theory can only handle 3W. Which would mean a maximum current of 17.32A. But is there more to it? like the PCB being able to handle more heat. Or just this resistor?

Asking because i want to attach a 350W motor 24V

Kind regards,

B. Admiraal

  • Hi,

Basically, current capability of gate driver (DRV8703-Q1) does not depend on DRV. It comes from system design such as external FET.

Our EVM is targeting automotive use case then targeting 20A peak. EVM is just for testing tool.

350W@24V could be ~15A. It could be OK to test.
