DRV7308: ILIMIT pin current rating

Part Number: DRV7308

Hello team,

I had a quick question on ILIMIT pin, what is the min & max current this pin can take?

Customer asked and I see on the datasheet that there is voltage spec for ILIMIT pin in recommended operating conditions section, but there is no current spec.

Thank you.

  • Hi Jade,

I don't believe that there is any current limit for the ILIMIT pin - it is just a high impedance input where a voltage is applied to the pin via a resistor divider. the ILIMIT pin draws a maximum of 1uA during operation (see Ib spec in datasheet).

  • Hi Anthony,

Thank you so much for your feedback!

I had a quick question on VM pin as well, how should customer select high freq capacitor (snubber)? And how were the recommended values on d/s for CVM1/2/3 selected?

On datasheet it recommends 100nF & 10uF, and additional optional 100nF in parallel, and customer asked how these values were selected.

Thank you for your help and support.

    Best regards,
    Jade

  • Hi Jade,

The 100nF bypass capacitor was selected to supply the higher currents that are present during MOSFET switching to keep VM stable during switching events. During the switching of the GaN FETs, the Coss is charged and discharged, and this will cause an inrush of current from VM to charge up the Coss. That is where the 100nF bypass capacitor comes in to keep the VM voltage stable during the switching. The >10uF cap we recommend is having a local bulk cap to support the VM voltage during more DC current or larger dips on VM.
