Can someone please recommend an off the shelf power supply for the DRV8711 Evaluation module?
Hi Jansen
The voltage and current specs of the power supply will be directly determined by the stepper motor you are using.
The EVM VM voltage input is recommended from 12V to 48V.
Note the RMS currents between motor phase and power supply are different usually because of the PWM driving. The following equation gives a rough approximate value.
V_supply * I_supply = 2 * I_RMS_motor^2 * R_motor
After you get the I_supply by above equation, you can give a 1.5x to 2x margin for the selection.
Thanks.
Hi Wilson,
Thank you for the prompt response.
I am looking to control a NEMA34 (frame size) stepper motor with the following specs:
Can you please use your above formula and margins to calculate my I_supply requirements?
Much appreciated.
Hi Jansen
Still you need to select your VM. Normally you can use 24V VM. I give a example of 24V as following.
24 * I_supply = 2* 2.13 * 5.6A
So I_supply should > 1A.
Let give enough margin as a 2A or 3A power supply. 3A is preferred.
Thanks.
