DRV8816 for non motor application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8816

Hi all,

at the moment we use a discrete H-bridge made of some transistors and power MOSFETs to drive a series resonance circuit built by an inductor and a capacitor at 12V/40kHz. Peak current is 1.2A, RMS current is 600mA. For a re-design we plan to replace the discrete solution by an integrated one. The DRV8816 looks like a possible fit.

But we are not quite sure about it. Maybe we overlooked something in the datasheet, because only motor applications are mentioned there? Our concerne is that the protoype will not work because the chip is made for driving pure inductive loades only?

Has anyone used the DRV8816 for non motor applications with success? We have to be as confident as possible about our decision when starting the re-design.
